(bug 1005936)

In pdf bookmark links, \_ was being converted to
'protect hbox.....55ex', instead of being inserted
verbatim.   This fix, taken from hyperref, changes \_
to {\string_} so that it is output correctly in the
bookmarks file.

This works for me.  I rebuilt html and pdf versions of the
documentation, and everything looked fine.

I can't test with acrobat, but it doesn't break on Unix. 
That's good enough for  me since Jeff says it fixed his problem.
