Hitting CTRL+Backslash does not show the calltip (which
is not shown by default) on Windows Xp with Python 1.5

You mean 2.5 final is suppose...
Works for me, Python 2.5 final, WinXP Pro.

Does this never work or only sometimes?
Have you checked you key definitions?
Does it work in the Shell window?

Please be more specific...
