Several functions in the time module can have the time
value they operate on omitted to indicate the current
time, but they do not accept None as equivalent to
omitting the value.  It should be equivalent.

I generally expect that None should be accepted for an
omitted arg, but Guido has certainly never cared about that.
 Given that no existing code passes None, it's ok to reject.
 If the truth be told, though, the current situation
certainly complicates some existing code!

Assigning back to Fred.  I fully support the ipath on the
basis that it will make user code less complicated.  

Blunk's patch had some minor review comments, but is
basically ready to go.
